This year’s Annual
Ceremonial Review was held at Glacier Gardens on
Saturday, 29th May. These outstanding young people were honoured before
an audience made up of friends, family and admirers. Reviewing Officer was Colonel
Michel Lalumiere, Commanding Officer, 19 Wing Comox.
Following the ceremony,
attendees enjoyed a reception with food provided by 888 (Komox) RCAF Wing Auxiliary and a huge cake donated by Quality Foods!

Commanding Officer's Award for Encouragement
Presented to a cadet who has experienced some difficulties during his/her cadet career, but who has shown the desire
and the will to succeed in the squadron and is being encouraged to continue.

Most Proficient Senior NCO
Presented to the cadet who has shown the most advancement in the squadron as a senior NCO. The factors for consideration

Collin Cathcart Award for the Spirit of Cadets
Donated in the memory of Cadet WO 1 Collin Cathcart by his family. Collin was a member of 386 Squadron from 1992
to 1985. He reached the rank of WO1 and was the Cadet Squadron Commander. Collin took great pride in belonging
to the cadet program and always showed a positive attitude about working together whether on the parade square or during a
team challenge. He always offered good advice to others and caused them to experience a sense of belonging. Presented
to a cadet who has demonstrated the true "Esprit de Corps".

Special Presentation
Lynne Davidson, President of the Comox Valley Lions Club, presents a cheque for $1000. This long-standing annual
donation, which is directed to maintaining the band instruments, is much appreciated by the Squadron. Accepting
the cheque on behalf of 386 Squadron is Band Officer, Officer Cadet Yolanda Lehton and the Drum Major, Cadet Warrant Officer
Class II Deanna Gilmore.

Ernie Waycott Trophy for Leadership
Donated in memory of Ernest William Albert Waycott by his wife Pauline. Mr. Waycott served in the Non-Permanent
Active Militia of Canada from 1930 to 1939. He served in the Royal Canadian Air Force in wartime and in the Regular
Force in peacetime for 25 years until 1964. He was a charter member of 888 Wing, RCAF Assn, now the Air Force Association
of Canada. Presented to the cadet with top leadership qualities.

Recipient: Warrant Officer First Class Quinn Park

"Irish" Ireland Trophy for Excellence in Pre-Flight Academics
Donated in memory of Group Captain, later Colonel, E.G. (Irish) Ireland by his wife Pauline. "Irish"
received his pilots wings in December 1941. He flew Spitfires, CF-100s and CF-101 fighter aircraft during his flying
years. In the 1960's he was Base Commander of CFB Comox and, among many accomplishments, was the driving force behind
the creation of this arena. He retired here in 1975. He was a charter member of 888 Wing of the RCAF Assn, now
the largest Wing in the Air Force Association of Canada. The trophy is presented to the cadet who achieved the highest
mark in the ground school training and the qualifying examination for flying/glider pilot scholarship.

Lord Strathcona Medal
The origin of the Strathcona Foundation dates fronm 1909. Donald Smith, Lord Strathcona, the man who drove the
last spike for the Canadian Pacific Railway, was then the Canadian High Commissioner in London. He wished to improve
the physical and intellectual capabilities of youth by encouraging habits of self-discipline, good citizenship and patriotism.
To this end, he created the Foundation bearing his name. In 1923 , a medal was struck and awarded to the most deserving
cadet of each Army Cadet corps across Canada. The Strathcona Awards were expanded to include the Royal Canadian Air
Cadets when this cadet program was founded in 1941. The Strathcona Award is the highest proficiency award which can
be awarded to any cadet in Canada. The recipient stands out among his or her peers through outstanding performance and
personal involvement in the community.

Cadet Long Service Medals
Presented to cadets on completion of four years of continuous service

today of the British Columbia Provincial Committee, Air Cadet League of Canada.
