While sitting on a dull November
day contemplating the approaching deadline for this winter issue of the Contrails, I was pondering what I could possibly say
about the Wing’s video library that hasn’t been said many times before... “a great membership perk, return
the movies within the week, handle the discs with care”, etc.
So for
inspiration I stopped by our supplier, Rogers Video in Courtenay, to get a feel for what new movies would be coming our way
in the near future. Much to my dismay, I was informed by the assistant manager
that the store would be closing by early January. She said that Rogers was closing
all but a few video stores in Canada. A clearance sale would start on December 5th, and by the end of the year most, if not, all videos would be sold at
great bargain prices. Unfortunately, most movies worth buying we have already,
and how many more decent ones they will bring in remains to be seen.
There
are a few ‘independent’ video rental businesses around the Valley and I will do my best to keep the flow of previously
viewed movies coming. Some of the hit movies recently at the theatres, such as
“Transformers 3: Dark of the Moon” , “Captain America”, “Green Lantern”, “Larry Crowne” and “Bridesmaids”, to name a few, will be added to our Wing’s video library in the next few months.
In the meantime, there are
hundreds of entertainment movies to choose from; so browse through the video cabinets and sign out a movie or two to enjoy
“On the Wing.”
